Welcome to Sprucewood - "Bring a piece of Northern Michigan into your home."

CONSTRUCTION

We use white Cedar logs and sprucewood planks harvested from Northern Michigan. Logs are debarked, kiln dried and hand sanded to retain the characteristics of the tree. Table tops are 2" thick solid spruce, bisquited and glued up prior to milling and sanding. This creates a very strong and flat surface that will not warp or crack. All joinery is done with glued mortise and tenon construction; no mechanical fasteners are used in our furniture.

FINISHING

Logs are hand sanded to 120 grit; planks are hand sanded to 240 grit. Each piece receives three coats of sprayed semi-gloss lacquer, hand sanded between each coat. This creates a very durable and smooth finish.

DOORS, DRAWERS, ETC..

Doors and drawer fronts are 1 1/4" thick spruce. Doors use self closing semi concealed hinges. Traditional wood drawer slides, legs for coat trees, floor lamps, standing mirrors, bar tables, etc use beech hardwood. Wood drawer slides are lubricated at the shop, waxing slides occasionally will keep them working like new. Standard wood pulls are created from split cedar logs. Cedar chests and deacon benches have sanded aromatic western red cedar bottoms, and use safety assist hinges.

UPHOLSTERY

Cushions used are 6" thick medium density foam. We offer 32 standard fabric designs form the "BURCH FABRICS CASUAL CHENILLES" collection. Back cushions and Ottomans use six-button construction. For custom fabrics you can work directly with our upholsters.

GLASS

1/8" double strength glass is used  in our hutches.

1/8" tempered safety glass is used in our display / gun cabinet.

1/2" thick plate glass with 1" radius corners and flat polished edges are used on all glass top tables.
